Nice website. It helped with my project on Amphibians.

suggestions :

You should have something on that salamander that doesn't go through metamorphosis. Whats it called, becuase that's what I need to know. The name. Oh well, I'll find it elsewhere...

response :

Sorry, Ella, that you seem to have been misled by the name of this site into expecting more info on amphibians (although, if you'd left your email, I would have answered that the beastie you're looking for is an axolotl). I hope you do well with your project, and also hope that you might have learned something useful about burns and fire safety while you were here.

Readability excellent: good, clear font and good contrast. Nice little graphics and the general colour scheme is warm to hot, symbolizing fire.

suggestions :

Hi, Sylvia, thought I'd pay your website a visit. Two suggestions: 1. How about a campaign to persuade people to put new batteries in their smoke alarms (I've recently been nagging a friend with a pretty little daughter to do this) and 2. private parts get burned too, so allowing children to see art statues/paintings of naked people could be therapeutic (imagine the embarrassment of genital burns if you've had a prudish upbringing).

response :

Thank you, Ian. Your first suggestion is something I will definitely consider (although I somehow doubt that any efforts of mine would persuade people if the big national campaigns can't). I personally fully agree with your second suggestion. Having had a prudish upbringing myself, I know exactly how embarrassing any medical examination (not only burns-related) can be for such people. Maybe a "campaign" of your own is in order here? ;)

In our fire we also lost her baby sister and it's been ruff. She's had many surguries and many more to come. One thing about my girl is she keeps her head held hi and to be honest most of the time my bundle of joy always gives me streangth. I thank god for her attitude!

Thank you for making this website. Thank you for sharing your story. Quinn: Despite your injuries, you have grown into a very handsome young man. I hope you do not mind me sharing your story with my three young boys. I want them to know that there are consequences for playing with fire. Not everyone is as lucky as you are.

Every person who gets burnt deserves love and support but there is nothing for the familys of those people. I was just a child when my brother got badly burned and i ended up running the house. Cooking cleaning doing washing, even when things went back to some semblance of nomality my mother was depresed so i still had to do all the work

suggestions :

think some more about what your other children went through when this terible tragedy struck your family

response :

My family and I were extremely fortunate to live only a short distance from the burns unit where Quinn was treated, so on weekdays I could see my other children off to school as usual and then go to spend each day with Quinn, returning each evening to spend some time with the others and to do housework. Also, my husband was able to tailor his work schedule to 'fill in the gaps'. I feel truly sorry for this person, and for any other family which has been less fortunate than we were. I would like to emphasise that there are now many groups which offer support to families as well as to the survivors themselves.

Most burn survivors have to cope with this type of "humour". Fortunately, these "witty" people are vastly outnumbered by those with sufficient intelligence and imagination to empathise with a burn survivor.

It is a marvellous site keep up the good work!!!

This guestbook was started in March 2004. Earlier guestbook entries were unfortunately lost with the old version of the Salamanders website.
